Nintendo publishes its financial report for the last fiscal year, boasting a 14 per cent increase in profits

For the 2009 financial year (1 April 2008 – 31 March 2009), Nintendo has reported sales revenue of ¥1.83 trillion (USD 18.5 billion), that’s up 9 per cent on last year. Profit, meanwhile, stands at ¥279 billion (USD 2.83 billion) for the 2009 financial year, which is up 14 per cent.

In terms of game sales, Wii Fit was Nintendo's biggest seller, with 16.37 million units shifted, closely followed by Mario Kart with 15.4 million.

On DS, Pokémon Platinum led the pack with 3.75 million sales. However, combined sales of Brain Training 1 and 2 reached an impressive 7.31 million.

Although it was a record year for Nintendo, profits in the last quarter fell dramatically by 42 per cent, and Japanese hardware and software sales for DS and Wii both saw a decline throughout the year.

Nintendo’s predictions for the 2010 financial year are cautious, and the Kyoto-based company estimates it will shift fewer DS hardware units than last year, which would be the first fall in DS sales since 2004.
