Activision has published its financial report for the last fiscal quarter, announcing USD 189 million in profits and a USD 2 billion sales milestone for its Guitar Hero franchise
Activision Blizzard's performance during the last financial quarter of 2009 (which ended March 31) was "better than expected," according to the mega-publisher, with a net revenue of USD 981 million - USD 120 million more than it had forecast.
Guitar Hero World Tour was the best selling third-party title in the U.S., and World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King was the best selling US PC game, according to the NPD Group.
“We are raising our calendar year 2009 financial outlook”
Good times for CEO Bobby Kotick, who says he is now raising his expectations for the rest of 2009.
"During the remainder of the year, we plan to release our strongest video game slate, based on some of the industry's most profitable franchises. We are raising our calendar year 2009 financial outlook."
Kotick also revealed that the Guitar Hero franchise has reached USD 2 billion in sales, making it only the third videogame franchise in history to reach the milestone.
[UPDATE]
It turns out Activision Blizzard are also in talks with TV companies to develop a reality TV show based on Guitar Hero. Yes, we're starting to get that vomit taste in our mouths too.
