User Comments: David Cage: Heavy Rain can't run on 360

Heavy Rain director David Cage has said that his upcoming PS3-exclusive would not be able to run on Microsoft's console
“David Cage: Heavy Rain cannot run on 360”

It like saying Alan Wake, Halo 3, etc... can run on the PS3. If a game has been designed to take advantage of a specific hardware of the PS3 or 360 then a port to another system is always going to be extremely difficult.

Actually cjoyce1980, you are quite wrong in this case. If it was strictly a graphical issue there would be ways to make any game work on almost any platform. With Heavy Rain the physics capabilities needed and the power used from the SPUs is something the 360 does not come anywhere close to the PS3. You cannot recreate this game on the 360 without cutting vital parts of the graphics and gameplay out of it. The PS3 is now really starting to seperate itself from the 360 by releasing quite a few games the 360 could never run. Even games like FF13 are stuggling to keep consistency between the two versions of the game. The dated DVD and technology in the 360 is only going to show worse and worse as the months go by. Just wait for E3, Sony has some things lined up that will really push it ahead technology-wise and stand alone. The show is going to be like when they first showed off Killzone 2, same impact except multiplied.

“Silly Question in the first place?”

Um isn't Heavy Rain a first party PS3 game? I could be wrong, and probably am, but what else would a developer say. Ask the other first party PS3 developers and I bet my bratwurst they say the same thing. It just smells of game journo's fanning the fanboy's inane anger. Really is this 'News'? Hmm slow news day methinks.

All this "impossible to run on the opponents system" talk is nonsense. It's all pr work to hype up and to make exclusives like Heavy Rain stand out from all the 3rd party titles out there. As for the 360's dvd drive being out of date, I don't really think having to install a great deal of my PS3 games before I can play them is progress.

“Heavy Rain won't run on 360.”

Of course it can't, it's a PS3 exclusive! - but that's the only reason, I mean from a technical point of view it could, no problem. It's just a soundbite forced on Cage by some Sony suit.

I think it probably could run on the 360 [albeit with a few minor drawbacks] and I agree with MJHAYLETT that it probably is just a first party saying it for PS3's benefit. There is the 360's hardware limitations compared to the PS3 but I think if Microsoft can produce games like they do now, then really the hardware doesn't come into play much.

I'd care if Heavy Rain actually looked like a good game.

that doesn't mean "absolutely not." This is just more opinion slanting from the desperate PS3 contingency. I bet the 360 COULD run this game. Also, I hope they work on the PLOT more than they did on INDIGO PROPHECY. god, that game was really good up until the end were the story went STUPID. Jeez dudes, get some real writers in there, will ya?

I like how all of you are saying it could be done, should be possible, etc - as if you know every little detail about the game and every little developing tool needed to make this possible. The trust is is that none of you know how the game is run, none of you know the actual specs it uses for the ps3, and if you think its still possible, it helps to at least be able to back up your statement instead of just leaving a 'theyre all just FANBOYS! it's sooo possible!' remark.

you all are just being silly, the devs are NOT first party. the 360 can NOT run this game.... nor 1st party titles like MGS4 or KILLZONE2, or UNCHARTED 2. But I'll bet my life that PS3's can easily run 360's 1st party titles such as Halo 3 or Gears of War 2 or Fable 2. Why? Its obvious, look at the graphics for Halo 3, why the hell wouldn't it be able to? Gears of War 2 uses UNREAL ENGINE, & so does PS3's UT3, & RAINBOW SIX VEGAS 2 etc. So its clear it can run Gears, if not for EPIC's CONTRACT with Microsoft. Fable 2? 1st party as well. Enough said. Like EJC said, you wanna make half assed remarks? Back them up. Don't be upset because you've realised the 360 is obsolete & your $$$ was not well spent. (probably paying for repairs & replacements too much eh?) lol

You know, this is all you ever hear about these two consoles. "My hardware is better than your hardware." yada yada. The Wii has destroyed both completely and utterly in the place it really counts. Playability folks. 'Nuff said!

@ samedizombie In sales is more likely. playability? not so much... it actually depends on whos playing it. To the "casual gamer" perhaps the Wii is playable or even fun. But for "hardcore gamers" the crowd that really matters because they drive the majority of profit., the Wii is not playable, but rather it seems to be a childrens game made for the technology illiterate adults & their own growing children. so for saying that Wii wins in that department clearly shows you are NOT a hardcore gamer. In which case makes your comment invalid. You have no idea what playability means to the hardcore gaming world. PS3 & 360 are BOTH certified next gen, Wii is merely a dreamcast with an unbelievable number of peripherals that is getting more & more ridiculous. Wii fit? (Its proven that the exercises do NOT work) Wii music? (You're NOT even playing your own tunes or even good tunes at all) You & your Wii is nothing more than an epic FAIL.

“Are you people PR spongebots or what?”

@okami-x - First, you should heed your own advice if you plan on jumpin\\\' down someone\\\'s throat for not backin\\\' up a statement...Kojima already said 360 was capable of doin\\\' MSG4 and even went so far as to say there was really no difference at all between the technical abilities of the 360 and PS3... [http://www.1up.com/do/feature?pager.offset=3&cId=3146425] Second, in response to your comment, \\\"the devs are NOT first party\\\"... Um... did you not get the memo? Guerilla Games (KZ2) and Naughty Dog (Uncharted) are OWNED BY SONY!! Heavy Rain is being PUBLISHED BY SONY!! Do you honestly think a Dev is going to bite the hand that feeds it?? Yeah, like David Cage, while being bankrolled by Sony Entertainment Company, is really going to come out and publicly boast: \\\"Well, actually... we COULD produce the same game--down to the complex hair physics--on the competition\\\'s system...\\\" This game was bein\\\' developed for PC AND PS3 before Sony contracted the publishing rights and forced an exclusive status on it... Please don\\\'t be naive enough to by the hype. ANY current gen exclusive can be developed for ANY other current gen system. Period. Everything else is fanboy technobabble and marketing BS. Devs I trust--that is, the guys who aren\\\'t currently developing on Sony\\\'s dime--all pretty much agree that the systems are about the same, tradeoffs exist on both. For example, in the case of the upcoming title Rage, John Carmack implied id COULD fit larger and more complex textures on the BluRay disc, but they probably wouldn\\\'t because such a decision would kill faster loading and \\\"other benefits\\\" (translation: PLAYABLE FRAMERATES).
